ITV has announced it is planning to close a television studio in South Bank that has hosted some of the UK’s biggest TV programmes of the last 40 years.
The London Studios, where programmes such as Saturday Night Takeaway and This Morning are filmed, is set to be closed to make way for redevelopment at ITV’s headquarters on the same site.
It is expected that the closure will mean the loss of around 140 jobs at the historic studio.
The broadcaster said the move would help to facilitate development of its new headquarters on South Bank which would bring all its London-based staff into one facility for the first time.
In an email to staff announcing the closure, Chief Executive, Adam Crozier, said: "We’ve given very careful consideration to what our plans mean for the London Studios (TLS), which would require significant investment to replicate within our proposed South Bank redevelopment.
