Digital Health combined COO and CTO role

Location: All of UK (Health Navigator has its head office in London and operations spread over the UK)

Position: Full-time

This newly formed, combined COO/CTO position will form an essential part of our growing senior management team, as we continue to build on the significant success that Health Navigator UK has achieved to date.

Reporting to our Managing Director, you will have proven management and decision-making abilities within innovation-driven healthcare companies. You will take responsibility for shaping and operating highly efficient local operations throughout the UK as well as developing our essential IT environment and growing our digital health solutions.

You are likely to have significant experience of healthcare operations as well as technical, IT and digital development knowledge, data management skills, alongside your general business management skills.

About the role:

Health Navigator is a young innovative, rapidly growing organisation based on extensive research and operations in Scandinavia and founded in the UK in 2015. Owned by its management, we are dedicated to improving patients’ lives through digitally supported health coaching at scale.

We are now recruiting for a combined COO and CTO role, who can ensure Health Navigator delivers both operational excellence in our existing medical coaching services and has the skills to further develop the digital content of our services.

You will continuously oversee and be responsible for our health coaching operations at a growing number of sites throughout the UK.

You will be responsible for a rapidly growing organisation of health coaching nurses, data experts and business analysts (currently 12 FTEs and with the ambition to double in 2018).

You will actively further develop our health coaching services, which includes gradually introducing additional relevant digital tools and new-age technology for patients and our staff.

You will be of an entrepreneurial and solution-oriented mindset who is willing to invest that extra time and effort required to build a new company together with a highly motivated management team and dedicated staff.

You will have extensive experience in managing service delivery and data management within the healthcare sector and seek to improve outcomes and results in any service you are responsible for.

You will have a thorough technical background and understand how to automate and digitalise health care services that traditionally have been fully delivered through manual labour. You will be known for having an inspiring and dynamic leadership style.

Required knowledge and experience:

- Master's Degree in Business Administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant subject

-At least 5 years’ experience of a managerial role within operations/service delivery within healthcare. COO, Head of operations, or similar.

-Ideally, this operational experience has been combined with a technical and IT system developmental role. I.e. defining, developing and implementing new digital tools and platforms to support operations.

-A sound grasp of current and emerging technologies and development methodologies (e.g. Agile)

-Data management and information governance knowledge.

-Experience of working with NHS data.

- Medical and research/scientific background is desirable as part of our service is externally monitored as a national, randomised controlled research trial

-People leadership; having a multidisciplinary team reporting to you

-Having experience of launching commercial health programmes into the NHS or another health-setting would be advantageous

Required skills and abilities:

-Experience managing centralized and decentralized operational functions

-Experience managing ICT operations and development

-Experience with digital and technical uplift of legacy systems

-Experience managing development teams

-Demonstrable track record of successfully driving operational change and technical development

-Skilled in planning, organizing, directing and coordinating a wide variety of activities; developing implementing and communicating policies and procedures; implementing fiscal management policies; analyzing data, making sound recommendations and adopting effective causes of action; working persuasively and tactfully with supervisors and line staff; supervision of specialized professional staff; communicating effectively both in oral and written form.

-Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries, complaints and negotiations.

-Strong customer service aptitude and sincere willingness to serve and do right by teammates and customers alike.

-Knowledge of principles and practices of modern management and administration; governmental policy, financial analysis; project management; personnel management; and business development.

-Ability to evaluate current operations and recommend new technology and digital improvements to enhance user experience for healthcare staff and patients

About Us:

Health Navigator is a provider of Proactive Health Coaching (PHC) – a proactive, targeted non-clinical nurse mostly telephone-based health service based intervention model aiming at measurably improve quality of life, ability to self-manage and reduce unplanned care contacts preventing avoidable acute care and increasing quality of life for patients with complex health and social care needs. A health coach, a specially trained nurse, helps patients to increase their patients’ participation and understanding of their health conditions and to ensure a well-functioning health and social care pathway. The intervention begins at an early stage of the disease progression and is an individualised time-limited programme for each patient. PHC primarily works alongside primary care and pulls together resources, e.g. specialists, social care and voluntary sector, to cover all of the patient’s needs, whilst promoting self-care and patient education. Our model originates from scientific research of case and disease management and is supported by several randomised trials.

Health Navigator is an organisation founded by physicians and researchers from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Health Navigator specialises in the provision of innovative health care services to achieve measurably improved outcomes for vulnerable patient groups, where one such service is Proactive Health Coaching (PHC).

PHC has been provided to over 12,000 patients across a population of six million, 17 hospitals and 450 primary care centres in Scandinavia since 2010 and in York, the UK since 2015. The intervention has delivered 20–40% reductions in unplanned hospital activity within the target patient groups. Over 90% of the patients say that their quality of life has increased, and 85% are either satisfied or very satisfied. The results have been published in two articles in the European Journal of Emergency Medicine.
