in partnership with L Marks. This ten week programme will enable you to trial your products at scale and receive expert mentoring and funding from Wincanton and L Marks.
Wincanton is a leading third party logistics (3PL) and supply chain solutions provider in the UK and Ireland. We work in industry sectors as diverse as defence, milk, energy, retail, consumer goods and construction, supporting customers at every stage of their development. Whether they are a small niche retailer, a growing brand or a multinational corporation, we add value through our supply chain expertise and our innovative approach to logistics challenges. Today, we are focusing on what we do best – delivering market leading logistics solutions.
About W2 Labs
The first-class mentorship on offer means successful start-ups will have the chance to learn from experienced subject matter experts, who will be on hand to help at the dedicated office at Wincanton’s headquarters. Each start-up will have opportunities to pitch for investment from both Wincanton and L Marks.
Zero equity is taken in exchange for joining W2 Labs. However, where we see a business opportunity together, and we want to work with you over the longer-term, we may offer a financial investment in exchange for a small share of your company.
Wincanton and L Marks have allocated capital to invest in the start-ups invited to participate in W2 Labs. Prior to joining the programme, terms will be agreed to invest a capped amount of capital in return for a mutually-agreed equity level. We do not take a minimum level of equity as W2 Labs is open to teams at all stages of business.
Areas of Interest
1. Improving Utilisation of our Assets
We’re looking for technologies which can help Wincanton better utilise and manage the thousands of customer and Wincanton-owned assets. These assets cover a variety of mobile and static assets both onsite at warehouses and offsite in the form of vehicles. We’re looking for solutions which deliver more value, improve asset utilisation, reduce waste and which can provide more diagnostic information.
2. Accessing and Brokering under-utilised space and transport assets
We’re looking for solutions which enable Wincanton to act as a broker or interact with other brokers for available space in warehouses, trucks, vans, containers or workshops and monetise that under-utilised space.
3. Connected Cab and Driver
There are increasing numbers of telematics systems available but what other connected technology could have an impact on the current truck driver experience and effectiveness? We’re looking for solutions which could enhance the combination of a vehicle’s intelligence and its ability to interact with the driver.
4. Data Challenges
Wincanton is gathering a wealth of data on customers and operations but this data isn’t being used to form a competitive advantage for the company. The 2 challenges are:
1. Visualisation of Data – How can Wincanton map and visualise data which tracks sold products, their destinations and commodities?
2. People – How can Wincanton support employees to better own their data, measure productivity etc.
We want to hear from the technologists and entrepreneurs who are transforming customers’ lives to identify how their innovations could apply to the logistics industry. Surprise us!
